Facing the fear of public speaking

Natalia

“[During a career tranisition] I became a volunteer with one organization. I got the opportunity to help organize and facilitate an event, which also gave me some visibility.

It’s important to mention that public speaking makes me shake. So, when we were discussing the program and someone asked if I was comfortable co-facilitating, my response was: “I’ll do my very best to feel comfortable.”

What happened behind the scenes? Prior to the event, I organized my very first workshop for a small group of people, just to practice the skills I would need. And in the end—it went really well.”

Key takeaway: Preparation and practice are key to feeling more comfortable. Taking the time to practice ”live” in front of a friendly audience is a great way to ensure your message lands.
